Rich Man's Soup

It's a known fact that food is pretty expensive here in Vancouver. On top of it being expensive, we also get taxed 12% so sometimes a bowl of soup at a restaurant can cost you almost $10 including tax and tip.-_-

For my soon-to-be-sister-in-law's birthday last week, we celebrated by going to a nice Chinese restaurant close to home. The soup page was the most interesting for me b/c it showed how crazily priced some of the bowls of soup were. The most expensive being... of course, shark fin soup for a whopping $368 CAD. Mind you, this isn't a giant bowl of soup with sprinkles of gold or anything, it's about a medium sized bowl good for about 6 people.

So... iPad or a bowl of soup?
decisions, decisions.

Hi Kym!

OMG! And, now 368CAD is 377USD?! About 60 bucks per person?! I think that soup is too pricey! We don't have such an expensive one in Japan.

No wonder I go for iPad. hahaha

Holy moly, that is ridiculous! I'm totally against paying more than $5 for a bowl of soup. EVER.

Omg super expensive soup and think about the poor shark! I rather buy an ipad...or a new bag LOL. I rather splurge and eat cheap abalone =P

hahahaha yeah, don't you love how those amusement park cameras take the BEST shots?! lol I always dread seeing myself on those screens, but my bf and I always have a good time giggling at others =P and OMG when I read that you thought the cast member was my bf I went back to see the photo and nearly burst out laughing....except I can't because Im at the library.....using the internet....because the internet at my house is down.......

I would beg to differ! Vancouver does have cheap spots, if you seek them out. The dim sum and sushi here is definitely way cheaper than what I could get in my hometown! Also for those that haven't had Chinese banquet food before, those types of soups are a specialty and would be expensive anywhere, not just here :) Although yea, an ipad would be much preferred please!

Wow that's insane for soup! I don't think I'd ever spend that much money on soup, plus I don't think I have the palette to enjoy that type of cuisine!

it better taste like gold, whatever gold tastes like. or be a super orgasm in my mouth, so much so that it makes NARS look bad :P but jesus! i also think lots of that sort of thing is for status- showing that you can order something like that on a whim and being able to pay for it.. impresses the people you're with (depending on your company)

That is RIDONKULOUS. Choice between iPad or bowl of soup, you say? I say NEITHER - I'd rather put it towards a vacation haha. And got your email, I'll be working on a template soooon, everything should work out a-okay though :)

I had shark fin soup few days ago at Lily's brother's wedding. It's not bad, I like it. But a while ago someone linked videos about how endangered sharks are, because of this soup. I guess I would rather skip the soup and buy iPad, better for the sharks.

I'm not cheap (why do I have to keep telling people that???), but there is nothing I want to taste badly enough to pay that much.

Someone I know likes to gamble and we go once in a great while, but I ask that type of question each time--iPad or soup??? =)

$368! I'll choose an iPad without a doubt.

I'd rather go to paris for a day trip and go up the eiffel tower. Than to eat any part of a shark. I mean, they fascinate me extremely but not to a point i want to eat them. They're endangered enough :(

Wow, that's a crazy price... I'll go for an iPad!

Happy Sunday, Kym!:D

I don't think shark fin or abalone soup is THAT great and would never splurge that much on it. I wouldn't complain if someone bought me a bowl though. ;)

ahh my friend was talking about how she went to a wedding that was serving shark fin soup and she passed on it! i would never pass on a nearly $400 bowl of soup, though i bet the fin tastes like rubber. when i get married all i want are belgian waffles and an enormous cheese station. keepin' it classy! haha ;)
