Life Lessons From a Stranger

Hola, friends! I'm still here! It's been a busy month so far with moving as well as releasing a new fall/winter line for my clothing line which you can check out here (if you haven't yet!). Last Sunday, I took part in a little show that celebrated Vancouver as well as raised funds for Cystic Fibrosis research, it was called the "We Love Vancouver" festival. A young guy passed by my table, stopped, back tracked then asked my friend and I:

Guy: What is this about?
Me + Friend: It's the "We Love Vancouver" festival
Guy: *leans in and gives us a suspicious look*...... Do you really love Vancouver?
Me + Friend: Uhhh... yeah.
Guy: F**K VANCOUVER!!!
Me + Friend: O___O

To try to break the ice, I asked him "Oh, are you Filipino?" which turned out to be a huge mistake b/c after that, I guess it did break the ice... enough for him to tell my friend and i his life's frustrations for the next 20 minutes. I won't bore you with the details of his rant but in the end, he left us with some pretty valuable life lessons. SO valuable that I thought it would be wrong not to share it with you... get your pens and papers ready for note taking. (these lessons are not exaggerated)

1) To survive in life, you must always lie.
2) Always be negative, never be positive.
3) If someone asks you for money, beat them up instead.

It was a very awkward and uncomfortable conversation... actually, it wasn't even a conversation as we couldn't get a word in (we were trying to tell him that the answer to his problem is to MOVE if he hates our city so much). I feel for the guy as it's evident he has some real hurt and anger in his life but I hope you know that that really isn't the lesson I want you to depart with... the real lesson is:

Use your energy to fix the problem instead of complaining about it!

Have you learned a "valuable" lesson
from a stranger lately?

why the guy happened to pass by that event?! lol

you are very smart ;D

but few years ago, my idea was kind of #2. if i think of negative, i believed that the negative won't happen.

but now i changed that and realized it's wrong.

if you have any negative feelings, that could become somehow true. so now i always think things in a positive way. sometimes difficult, but i try. then surprisingly, things ends somehow positive. always "somehow" though. haha but better than somehow negative!

Guess he just needed an outlet to vent! You should have told him to get a blog or something. People like that sap the energy and spirit out of others!

What a weirdo!! Someone like that, seems like they are only happy when they're bitching.

some people just take whatever opportunity they can get to let out their frustrations i guess. but i agree that complaining gets you nowhere!! just do something about it!

Haha the poor guy. He was probably just looking for someone to talk to.

And poor you two, too! For having to put up with him. :P

Sometimes I really try so hard to always think positive but sometimes the negative just gets me down so I end up being practical to a fault sometimes. But I still believe in being positive even if it's hard. :)

one word AWKWARD!
or well maybe two, also as you said UNCOMFORTABLE.

Yikes, poor guy must have had some serious issues in his life. I feel bad for people like this. People who are just so unhappy with the world around them they can't see all the beauty they're surrounded by or who aren't thankful for how lucky their life may be compared to lots of other people in different parts of the world.

Dang, well all I've got to say is that I'm really gosh darn happy you aren't like this Kym! hahah Or else I'd have a hard time lovin ya so much ;)

I hope you have a grrrrreat weekend! :D

<3,
Dana

Wow that's crazy and a bit intense. I don't know but if I had to listen to that I'd shoot myself. Seriously that just seems so negative.

I like what you wrote.. Fix the problem instead of complaining about it ! :)

I'm glad that things are going well for you. It's exciting watching your business flourish!

That boy needs something major to happen to shock him into realizing his life (and the people he lets into his life) can be so much better than he thinks.

Why, when I was a boy...

LOL, don't worry, I won't to that to you comment box (again). :P

He must've had a rough time but no matter how rough, I can't stand people who complain and don't do anything about it. Or people who runs away from the problem and just pretends everything is alright. Extremely irritating.

Thanks for commenting! ^^

Wow.... that guy was pretty intense! I mean it's okay if he's bitter with his life but why bother to share his private life with you? omg. Come on. That's pathetic. Instead of ranting about your life you should find a way to fix it. You only have one life so you should value it!
