Philippines Pt.3: Serenaded.

When I was a little girl, i thought getting serenaded was the most romantic thing ever. I always dreamt that my future lover would throw rocks at my bedroom window and serenade me with his guitar while he was on bended knee. All i ever got was a song sang through a telephone by one boy i liked in high school. I didn't even understand what it was about... some Filipino song where the title reminds me of the word for eggplant. Romantic.

2 weeks ago, before my husband and I left the Philippines, we ate at a popular buffet called Saisaki where they have people going around to each table and taking song requests! I was too excited and flustered that I couldn't think of a song to request so I told the group to surprise us. They sang "Grow Old With You" :) It was nice but I have to admit, it was also a little awkward at times. What do you do while they're singing to you? Do you keep eating or do you just stare at them? I didn't know what to do so i just videotaped. haha!

Have you been serenaded before?

Only if "Happy Birthday" counts! LOL. This is a great post Kym, I'm glad you got to experience that--W looked pretty pleased too. Thanks for sharing. =)

I have sang--in very short bursts--to K, but never serenaded her. One year for Xmas her gifts included a recording of me singing a carol (or two?)...but short bursts are better because the longer I go the worse it gets. But this is a good tip for my next anniversary--I can take her somewhere and have professionals do the singing.

Aw super cute! I've never been serenaded but I always thought I might be awkward if someone did it for me. :)

When boyfriend a.k.a. Carpet Head and I first started going out, we would usually just hang out at my apartment. One time he brought his guitar and sang me songs. I guess that counts? :)

I wish I have :( Saving that for the future bf. I was so jealous when at the nkotbsb concert... bsb grabbed 4 girls from the audience, and serenaded them with 'I'll never break your heart'!!!! SO jealous. And gave them roses :( So romantic.

The video can't play on my computer coz of my network connection, arghhh. Oh hmm yea I've been serenaded before by a group of wandering musicians in a restaurant, while on holiday somewhere in Malaysia. They were singing a bunch of oldies and my table got "Rose Garden", lol!

ps; the word verification below is "mused" just #fyi :D

haha I think I would do the same thing as you b/c just staring into each other's eyes for that long would be kinda weird!

My BF serenades me sometimes out the blue so unashamedly. Then again we've been together so long he's not ashamed of anything with me now!

Omg, I'm relaying that message to my mom, haha. She'll like it :)

But I don't wanna look like I'm twins with my little sister :p She's 5 years younger and it drives me crazy that it doesn't look like that because when I'm out with her sometimes older guys don't realize how old she is & it kinda scares me. *protective older sister here* hahah. But then again I always have fun joking around that I look like I'm 12 sometimes ;P lol

No I haven't, though I'm a very shy person so I don't really know how I'd react :) xo

Ahhh yes, our girly fantasies, the ones that we realize will never come true because life isn't like a movie, but that's not always a bad thing right? I wouldn't like it if my new bf came and threw rocks at my window. 1.) I'd probably scare him with my untamed hair and groggy face 2.) I'd probably be FREAKING out about and wouldn't dare open the window 3.) My parents would probably have a warrant out for him by dawn HAHAHA

I think videotaping them is a great idea! It takes off the awkwardness and makes a great souvenir, a great way to remember a memory! LOL

P.s It's getting sunny again! =D

Haha we share the same dream of wanting to be serenaded ... I'm sure I could make a song with the word 'eggplant' sound romantic :P

And I'd also probably just film them, it'd seem rude to just keep eating lol. "Grow Old With You" is a perfect choice :D HOPE YOU HAD A GREAT BIRTHDAY WEEKEND! I saw all the sweet deals you got on Facebook, so proud lol :)

haha XD it is an awkward situation... I mean if it was like you imagined only the guy serenading to you, you have no where else to look but at him right...

but when there's a group... while you're eating... recording seems like the best choice XD

p.s i've just tagged you in my latest post

hahaha. I never thought about this but you're right, what DO you do when people serenade to you during dinner? XD

I'll prolly sit and listen through the whole song and smile politely. Sneaking a bite here and there when I can^-^

serenading was actually part of old school filipino traditional courtship & i kind of wish that were still the case today ;) so romantic..
