Like any other person (especially a person in the spotlight), he isn't loved by everyone but i really believe that things change when you get to meet the person. Sure, he may have different views and ideas but he's really down to earth and seems like a nice guy... he even wore a Manny Pacquiao t-shirt that night. Haha!
I guess the lesson is that you shouldn't create your own ideas about someone before you meet the person :)
Have you not liked someone because of what you heard about them, but changed your mind after meeting them?

We're all victims of prejudice... I must say it happened to me not to like someone because of what I've heard and then change my mind after getting to know them, but not very often. I try to know people before disliking them, even if my friends do. Sometimes they're right, but often (quite often) they miss good people just out of prejudice. I think is sad, but I don't judge them... Anyway... I usually am right when it comes to instinct. If I dislike a person at first sight, I am usually right to dislike them even when I get to know them... God I'm writing complicated stuff tonight... excuse me... :-D
I've mostly happen the other way around.. I really liked someone until I was exposed to their true face. I hate when you think that people are super nice, but then find out that they bitch about others, bitch about their lives, lash out at everyone and are SO mean.. it sucks
I wanna be your real life friend! D: You seem so cool! -camps in Kym's garden- LOL
That's so cool that he did that. I've never heard of anyone in the spotlight doing something like that! I think it's easy to make opinions when your looking from the outside but once you get to know someone you really begin to understand who they are!
Wearing It On My Sleeves
That's pretty awesome that you got to hang out with the Mayor of Vancouver. Honestly I think everyone's always going to have their opinions about someone whether it's positive or not. I think in my case I always like to give people the benefit of a doubt before I make a full on decision whether they're someone I'd like to be involved with my life or not.
The pacquiao fight was sort of lame I wish he k.o mosley :( lol
i think i have the same prejudice when it comes to people, but ya id say when i get t o know them better alot of time ppl that you thought u dont like turns out to be okay...and of course there are times when you thought people were nice, but later turns out to be complete a**holes~~~so now and days i try not to judge a person b4 i actually get to know them better, i think i owe them that, and id like to treated the sameway, i mean if you dont know me, why you hating on me right? so ya i totally agree with you~~~
What a cool mayor! LoL. Sad but I dont' know who the mayor is of my city. I have someone who I didn't like at first but changed my mind. It's this k-celeb named Sohee from Wonder Girls. People say I look similar to her but I didn't really like how she looked. But I got to meet her and she was actually really cute/pretty in person. I was surprised. LoL
Hi Kym!!! Yes!!! I met an actress who I thought is mean because of the way she looks ( pretty prejudiced though...) but she was really nice. I met her at a cooking contest. I don't say who she is, but she was beautiful and kind. hahaha
I try not to create my own ideas before i actually see the person, but I wonder why I do this once in a while... The same thing to the other way, I once got really disappointed seeing the person whom I thought is nice.
amazing! how awesome of an opportunity to hang out, celebrate, and get to know the mayor. it's interesting you bring up the notion of our own perceptions are shaped by others and how its based on what others say is true so we just accept it without truly trying to get to know an individual or situation. i totally felt that way about meeting people like especially for semester long classes, we all put up an exterior that's hard and others just take it wrong.. its like you don't actually get to know someone til the end and by then the course is nearly over, then we usually just all become associates... -______- always love the posts you make that have the readers reflect and just think about the bigger picture!
Depends on who I get the information from. Sometimes the opposite happens when someone who I don't like doesn't like someone. I usually have a preconceived notion that we'll be the best of friends.
Am I evil? =P
Oh...I've known loads of people like that! I generally don't like anyone I meet in school (don't know why) but many of them do prove my presumptions wrong! On the same note, there are a number who I dislike even more after talking to them. haha.
You have a good mayor, it was nice of him to reach out to the community like that!
oh wow what a cool mayor!
That's a great story! My cousin's husband is in a christian metal band and he's the 'screamer' in the band - tatoos, piercings, long hair, the whole deal - but irl he is so down-to-earth and just not at all what you would expect! I love people who break the boundaries like that I think it's really inspiring! It shows that you can be who you want to be without having to stick to the stereotypes and what society expects you to be! =)
i usually reserve judgment until i meet the person myself.
ok so for a second, I thought that Manny hung out with you guys. Clearly I am literate. haha anyway, it sounds like you had quite the time.
and yes, you can't judge a book by its cover.
You should totally try it out, i only own 3 red lipstick, but i was afraid to use it cuz i dont know wt kinda look i should do, but red is a classic colour that i think would look good on evryone, i mean the safest way to wear it would be wearing a cat-eye liner with a good coverage foundation and barely there cheeks....
i mean it was my first time trying out a red lipstick, so i dont know much about it yet...but if i figure out smth better u can def. catch it on my blog~~~~
i think you bring up a very valid point.. but it's hard when you might never meet someone, say the president. and even if you DO happen to meet them, sometimes people's personalities and characters make it so they pass their original judgement or narrowminded-ness even after.
