Oh, You Fancy Huh?

Well, actually I was the opposite of fancy last Saturday.

My sister-in-law and my dad helped my fiance and i paint our new place. Our colors are going to be blackbrown ! I know a lot of people say black and brown don't go together but it actually gave the place a really nice, warm and sophisticated look. :)

Halfway through our painting, my sister in law and i decided to take a break and grab screamers (slurpee w/ ice cream on the top & bottom) at a nearby convenience store. We didn't have time to change so we went there looking like we haven't showered in several days. Our hair was a mess, we smelled like dust and paint, I had paint splatters on my face (since it was black paint, it looked like i had massive black heads all over my face, hahaha!), my black sweater and shoes were more like dark gray b/c of the dust. My sis-in-law had large paint splatters on her jeans and we were both carrying two large drinks in our hands (for my brother and fiance). We looked like we hadn't showered or eaten anything in days. hahaha!

It's funny when I think about it because if that was several years ago when we were still in high school, we probably wouldn't be caught dead outside looking like that. In high school, I'd make sure my hair looked proper, my clothes were "cool", i smelled nice, etc, even if i was just going to the mall for 15 minutes. Now - yes, of course i still make an effort to look nice but I'm not afraid to look like a scrub once in a while if there's good reason for it. Emphasis on "if there's good reason for it". Trust me, it's not like i would purposely go somewhere with paint on my face. haha!

Are you less conscious about your appearance now compared to when you were younger?

Im much less conscious now because I realize that people are pretty understanding and they're not actually scrutinizing you're outfit/move when you're out! But turn back the clock 5 years ago and I wouldn't be caught dead without my "proper" clothes on, even to the grocery store! Now I throw on a hoodie, slip on some leggings, grab my uggs and go! Hey, there's a reasons why this combo is so popular! It's too comfy and easy to pull together, even though many label it as "high school-ish" PSSSHHHH whatever!

P.s the look of your home is nice! I believe black and brown can go together!!!

I've always shied away from darker colors just because it makes a small house look even smaller. But in a nice big room, it really adds dimension to the room. You have to show us what it looks like at the end!

And I'm much less self-conscience now. I don't care much for what people wear or look like so I assume that's how the other person feels. Makes life so much more easier! Although I like to look good for the sake of looking good. Haha. I don't mean that in a snobby, self conceited way either.

Yep, less conscious now. As a an adult male it's my birthright to walk around knowing I look good no matter what. Hahahaha!!!

When I was young, if my dad needed something from the hardware store while we were doing chores on Saturday, he wouldn't go unless he shaved and showered first. My first trips into stores alone were to spare him that effort--he'd sit in the car while I ran in to get the part or whatever.

PS - I'm sure you and the SIL both looked very cute with the paint splatters. =)

OMG...I want a screamer right now!

Hmm I think I'm more conscious now than when I was younger, but in a different way.. as in I take more time to look nice, but I'm also more confident in myself and daring to stand out. :)

Absolutely. I can totally relate to this.

Hahahaha..yes, I'm less conscious now. I guess as we grow older, we gain more confidence and just be ourselves. It's also unique to be different!

P.S. I love the wall! Black and brown definitely go together.

I think I'm more conscious of what I look now compared to my high school days. Maybe because of my job as a reporter. on my first day at work, they immediately noticed I don't wear make up. I never did when I was in college. My bosses required me though! Hence, I'm more conscious now :)

good paint job, Kym! :)

Hahaha, I can just imagine you with dark paint all over your face! HAHAHAHAHA<3 It's brave to go for such dark colors, tho! D; I'm excited for the result!

Hi kym!

My excuse is that I know how to wear properly when needed... so to save time, I wear the same pullover almost every day... and I understand you from your last post! haha

For me would be a Yes and No. When I was younger, I'm always conscious about looking fashionable. Now that I'm so so so much older, I'm conscious about all the fine lines and brown spots.

Haizzz ... it doesn't seem to end huh?

no. im definitely more conscious about my appearance now.

BUT HOW DO YOU PAINT A ROOM? I remain pretty clean =)

Love them bags but my thoughts are exactly the same!!! i agree with you!!! thanks for the lovely comment!!! love your blog:)

Wow thats a brave wall colour to pull off! I agree... the older you get the less you care about what others think about your appearance... to some extent lol!
Bit of paint and scruffiness does no harm and I'm sure people will be able to tell you didn't deliberately dress like that for no apparent reason!

haha funny story about it! good thing people didn't give you coins or something (or think of you guys as beggars :P)... and i think i'm not less conscious but more of i don't care what other may think of what i wear, what i look. it feels liberating to know that people in the phils dress whatever now (from the pinoy blogs i'm reading at least hahaha) :D

I thought black goes with everything!!!! :-)
I was always concious of what I was wearing even when I looked like a hippy or a scaring punk! :-D

The wall looks great. Nice color combo. It's definitely a risky color mixture. I would say that I was definitely less conscious when I was younger. Haha! That's the best part of being a kid I guess. You just don't care. Teen years - a little more conscious because it's the awkward years. Today - I love who I am and have a wonderful boyfriend who appreciates how I look no matter what (even when I broke out in hives for a week...haha).

I am in so much of a "i don't care" mode now since highschool. then, i wouldn't be caught dead without combed hair, makeup and proper clothes. Now? so not in the mood to dress up, put my face on or anything. Times really have changed

oh i remember when i moved into my previous apartment. we did all the painting, cleaning, etc. it was def. an older building but i had such a blast putting together a place! i hope that you get your home together with all the excitement. brown and black are definitely interesting choices for wall colors, but im sure it's going to look great once you get everything moved in.

haha i walk out without makeup anymore.. at times i'll wear sweats. i feel like now that i'm older it all doesn't matter, haha.

Yeah I'm less consious about how I look now than when I was younger. Although I also didn't really care much back then. :P

That black wall looks awesome! I see what you mean about sophisticated. Can't wait to see more photos with the furniture back in.

Now that I'm well out of high school and college, I don't care as much about looking "cool". I think as you get older you get more comfortable and confident with yourself. Thank goodness! Who wants to have the insecurities of a teenager?

PS: Holy cow the Screamer sounds amazing and I am going to see if they have these in Seattle. Wish me luck!

I don't really know whether I've become more image-conscious now or not. I think, in general, I just don't really care, but I've come to care about my image as a dentist. Part of the reason why I behave now is (I think) because I know I should be respectable... hehehe! So sometimes when I look like I've just woken up and I'm the grocery, etc, I hope and pray that I don't get to bump into any patient...

Anyway, Bon and I have fixed our place up already, but I haven't blog about anything yet, until after the wedding.

I'm sure you looked HOOOOT in the paint, and in fact, I demand you where that exact same look when we meet up in a few weeks' time! (Are you free Monday the 16th? Please say yes) :D

And I like the whole black/brown combination. Black is tricky on walls but if anyone can make it work, it's you. And brown/black reminds me of bees for some reason ... so I think you should have some yellow decor in there, too!

I'm definitely less conscious now then before, not just in appearance, but also with food. When I was younger I wouldn't eat anything that could possibly embarrass me in public, but now I'm like "SWEET!!! FOOD!!" *launches self at table* lol

hey Kym, excited to see how it turns out. i've seen black-brown but only in photos. check this out, stylist pam quinones' house [few photos only] of black-brown: http://www.realliving.com.ph/blog/2009/06/11/french-flair/

i think she also had an area paintd with black-deepPurple. Amazing!!! :)

i was just like that in high school. i didn't leave the house without brushing my hair and powdering my nose. :P

Oooh, will you be showing us a few pics of how your new place will turn out after all the painting? ^-^

I'm actually the opposite of you. I use to drag my ass around high school wearing my dad's sweater with lopsided glasses. Sometime, I'd wear my best friend's sweater by accident and not even realize it >.<

But my confidence level has increased as I get older. I don't know if my attempt at being more fashionable has anything to do with it though. hahahaha
