...That's what my dad told me when i shared with him my desire to do more with my business other than just selling clothes. Don't get me wrong, designing and selling my own clothing has been amazing, i love what i do ... but at the end of the day, the poor are still poor, the hungry are still hungry, the abused are still being abused.
What can i do? People say things like
"You can't help everybody"
True, but helping even just one can make a world of difference! I decided to commit to donating a portion of my t-shirt earnings to Gentle Hands in the Philippines. It only made sense to start with my home! :) You can read more details on my blog post here or watch the video below:
For those of you in the Philippines, it would be so cool if you guys visited these children... they will change your life, seriously!
Has a persons act of kindness changed your life in any way?
Good job Kym! I wish that more people are like you... Sometimes I volunteer for dental missions. I cannot really do anything more than that, but every little helps, right?
This is really great Kym. Actually I'm headed to the site there right now and see how I can set up some type of donation once I open shop and start selling items.
You're right we can't help everyone, but we can at least help a couple people and that makes a big difference.
Your dad is a smart man--and it goes without saying that he meant suceed in the only way that truly matters, as a human being. Money comes and goes, but when you help someone you might change the course of their life and you never know how that may roll forward and affect other lives. Your dad also knows his little girl is already a great success.
Hey Kym! I think it's really sweet and thoughtful you're doing this! This reminds me of time I had to cancel my funding to a child, it was through World Vision and you pay 35$ to sponsor a child, I did this when I was in my teens with my first job but after 2 years or so had to cancel because I didn't have a job and thus no income, it was one of the hardest things to do, my parents offered to pay for me but I couldn't let them pick it up =(
Oh wait I didn't even answer your question lol Yes! I also often think it is small acts of gestures that is nice. One time bf and I drove downtown and found a parking spot on the street, as we were feeding the meter a young, well dressed man ran across the street to tell us we can't park at that time and we'd surely get towed!!! I just thought it was sweet that he went out of his way to tell us that, I mean we were just strangers on the street!!! I hope you're doing well dear!
Ever since you first told me about making little changes to herro hachi (youtube vids and gentle hands) I just felt this swell of pride that I could help design a site for someone who goes out of their way to help other people :) you're awesome, m'lady! Can't wait to talk redesign talks in the future, too <3 Hope you've had a great weekend so far!

This is so great of you. I always thought if ever I'd have my own business I'd do something similar. It just feels right to give something back. :)
amazing! we all are passionate about something. this is inspiring!
