I Feel Like...

Sometimes I feel like the weight of the world is on my shoulders. Working a day job and managing a business at the same time is starting to take its toll on me mentally, physically, and emotionally. I mean, just the other day, I was so stressed out that I actually cried because I saw that all I had left for breakfast was cereal. WHO DOES THAT!!! (no, i'm not pregnant, haha!)

Kinda reminds me of Sarah McLachlan's song...

"Spend all your time waiting for that second chance
For the break that will make it ok
There's always some reason to feel not good enough
And it's hard at the end of the day
I need some distraction, oh beautiful release..."

In spite of all this though, I can still smile because when i feel giving up, i have an army of encouragers pulling me back up. I know that a little sacrifice now will go a long way in the future. Almost there...almost there.

What would you do in this situation?

Last week, My bf and I along with Claudia and Lawrence (Lemon Pie couple) went to a party called "Pink in the City" which was a Breast Cancer Fundraiser. In order to save money on gas and parking, we all decided to take the train downtown. In the train, Claudia and I were together against one wall while the boys were holding on to the pole in the middle of the train.

Suddenly, Claudia and I saw a bunch of (perhaps almost drunk) girls taking a picture with my bf... and the girl straight up had her arm around his body! UHMMM EXCUSE ME! Me being a bit awkward and shy, I wasn't really sure what to do. Do i tap her on the shoulder and say "hi, that's my boyfriend".... Do i just stare at her? ... Do i secretly join in on the picture? My bf being a bit awkward and shy as well, he didn't know what to do either. haha! This isn't the first time it's happened... bf has looked to me many times to "save him" but i just kinda stand on the sideline thinking of what i could do... and by that time the moments over. hahaha!

What would YOU do?

Awkward Family Photos - Miley Cyrus Edition.

The post I planned for today was inspired from a magazine I read on the weekend. It was about how Miley Cyrus has turned from innocent to scandalous - just like her predecessors, Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan, etc. etc. I was going to talk about how nowadays, everyone is going the scandalous route in order to get some attention... whatever happened to being famous simply because you are talented?

To pair my post with photos, i typed in "Scandalous Miley Cyrus" on Google and the direction of my post suddenly changed.

What the heck is this!!!

This definitely reminded me of my post from a few days ago about Awkward Family Photos. If i didn't know who Miley Cyrus was, I would have assumed the "macho man" she is resting on was her boyfriend!!! *puke*

Sarah Geronimo in on Project Herro!

As many of you know my official website, www.herrohachi.com, will be launching in July. In preparation for the web launch, I’ve asked many people from around the world to take part in Project Herro where all you have to do is take a photo with my trademark speech bubble, saying “hello (or herro ;)” in your native language.

For those of you who don’t know Sarah Geronimo, she is a very well known singer and actress in the Philippines. Read more about her here. The photographer for my upcoming photoshoot was her official photographer when she was in concert here last weekend and he was able to make this happen! So exciting!

If you’d like to take part in this project, it’s not too late! Please send an email to: kym@herrohachi.com

I hope to bring herrohachi to my homeland, the Philippines, someday! : )

P.S - are my posts showing up on your google reader/blog feed thing? apparently some people aren't getting updates on my new posts :( does anyone know how to fix this?

P.P.S – my hoodie sale of 35% off ends tomorrow! Click HERE to get yours before the sale ends!

Sewing FAIL.

Last Friday, Claudia and I attended the Etsy Anniversary Party here in our city. There were 3 stores on the same block who participated in this party - some had crafts available for kids and one store had a sewing party for adults.

One store we really enjoyed had a bunch of vintage things like old stamps, type writers, and old bottle caps. Pretty cool stuff!

At the last store we went to, we were able to make our own pinwheels. I have never hand sewn anything in my life. Heck, I didn't even know how to sew a button on until last Friday! (I was a bit intimidated by Claudias sewing skills since it's what she does, i mean check out her amazing work here) Doesn't our final product look beautiful?

Little do you know, this is what my pinwheel looked like in the back. HAHAHA! I actually sewed the pin shut. Whatever, it's a work of art to me! ;P

I had a great weekend full of sunshine and great company - I leave you with the quote above, i found it in a restaurants washroom.

This past weekend, I learned how to sew on a button - did you learn anything new?

Don't forget - My "Live, Love, Laugh, EAT!" hoodies are 35% OFF until Tuesday, June 22! Come get yours here!

Awkward Family Photos

At the beginning of this week, I decided to kill time at the bookstore during my coffee break. I ended up having a great laugh when I came across the Awkward Family Photos book.

It kinda reminded me of my awkward younger years. At the age of 6, I had to start wearing glasses (probably because I read in the dark, and played tamagotchi on the train constantly) and at that time, what was "in style" were the big huge circular eyeglasses. Not gonna lie, i was even a bit of a tomboy.

Check it out, i've even got the boy swag going on, sporting my big circle glasses WITH stings attached might i add! Those were to make sure I didn't drop them on ground if they accidentally came off. Check out the other girls in the background - cute, girly, mary jane shoes.. but me? You can't see it but I'm wearing boy black shoes.

Now it's your turn! Let's see a picture of you from your awkward years!

Don't forget - My "Live, Love, Laugh, EAT!" hoodies are 35% OFF until Tuesday, June 22! Come get yours here!

Delicious Movie Weekend

Besides having delicious food this weekend (as you can see in the pictures above), I also saw two movies: A-TEAM & KARATE KID

A-TEAM: I absolutely LOVED it and want to see it again! It reminded me a lot of movies like Ocean's 11 - comedic, action, problem solving, even a bit of a love story. I thought they chose appropriate guys to play each main role but then again, i've never seen the original A-Team so i have nothing to compare it to. A++

KARATE KID: Loved this movie also - lots of action, character development, a bit of comedy. Jaden did a great job in this movie, it made me want to learn kung fu after watching it! haha!

How was your weekend?

The Faker the Better?

A while ago, I caught a show on MTV called "TRUE LIFE" and the episode was entitled "I Hate My Face". The girls featured hated something about their face or their body. They hated their appearance so much that it was getting in the way of their life, their family, their relationships, work, etc. One girl first wanted a nose job and thought that would finally make her happy, eventually she realized she still wasn't happy so she decided to get a boob job. That still didn't make her happy so she decided to get pregnant instead to "fill the void". Riiiggghhhht.

We may scoff at girls who are like this (*cough* Heidi Montag *cough*) but really, it's a sad story and it happens to so many girls today. So i encourage you...think of what you love about yourself instead of what you hate. True beauty lies on the inside b/c once you are able to love and appreciate who you are, somehow the things you used to hate about yourself just fade away.

So... what do you love about yourself?

P.S - i've added a section on the sidebar dedicated to bloggers who handmake items. Let me know if you'd like your link added there :)

Inspirations

I love hearing stories about people who start out as "small people" and become something great. It just gives me warm fuzzy feelings, haha. Here are some of my recent faves:

JAPADOG: Japadog was started by a Japanese couple who moved to Vancouver in 2005. The husband was an ad salesman in Japan and had big dreams of opening a crepe cart here in the city. He faced many obstacles but kept working hard... soon the Japadog was born and it became one of the most popular carts in downtown Vancouver. Two weeks ago, they were able to upgrade their humble hot dog carts to a restaurant!

CHARICE PEMPENGCO: This story is close to my heart since she's from my home - The Philippines. Small town girl, big voice - turned down many times and faced adversity, but again... she never gave up and look at her now! Signed with David Foster, singing with Celine Dion, on Oprah, and now has her own songs that are internationally known!

JAYESSLEE: Some of you may have heard of them or watched their videos on YouTube. These Korean twin sisters are some of the most humble singers I have known of. They just did what they loved to do - sing...now their videos are reaching more than 3 million views! Watch them here: www.youtube.com/user/jayesslee

FOREVER21: We all know them, we've all probably shopped there at least once but did you know that it started with a couple who migrated from South Korea to LA? They started out with a 900 sq foot store and now they are worldwide with over 400 stores!

What is your favourite "zero to hero" story?

Wercome!

Hi everyone, welcome to my personal blog.

Here are some questions you might be asking:

WHY THE CHANGE FROM WWW.BEECREATIVE.CA TO PATIKYM.BLOGSPOT.COM?

With my official clothing line website launching in July (www.herrohachi.com), I wanted to create a clear distinction between my business website & blog and my personal blog. The “beecreative” domain name was starting to create confusion because I was blogging about both business and personal things there. This also explains the decrease in blog posts on beecreative.

WHAT’S WITH THE NAME “PATIKYM” ?

In Tagalog, “patikim” means “can I taste?” and while you’d think there is some deep meaning behind this name – the real reason I chose it was because every combination of my name was taken, even my real first name! But you get the play on words… patikim…patikym… get it, get it? ;)

WILL YOU BLOG MORE NOW THAT YOU HAVE THIS PERSONAL BLOG?

Probably. Now that there will soon be a separate official blog for my business, I feel that I have more freedom to post about anything I want on this personal blog. I’ll probably even do more tags and awards this time! :D

Thank you to those that followed me here! I hope to be able to better keep in touch with you through this blog. If not, there is always facebook and twitter :)
